Recommended Checklist

Neighborhood pools are very hot and sunny, both home and away families will be able to use the field directly behind the pool to set up tents and chairs.  We ask that the pool deck only be used by families to view their swimmers events, not to camp there.  This enables everyone to enjoy the races and see their children.

  • Bring tents, lawn chairs, picnic blankets, shade covers, hats, etc
  • Plenty of sunscreen! Bug spray is also recommended!
  • Plenty of water and other drinks, snacks
  • Entertainment for siblings of swimmers
  • The zero entry pool will not be accessible during the meet, there will be a guard on duty to keep children out of those areas.  Residents without swimmers will be able to use the North Pool for recreational swimming while the meets are in progress
  • Extra pair of goggles, wear team suit and swim cap
  • Black Permanent marker-you will need to write your child's name on their upper right shoulder along with the event number they are swimming.
  • All amenity rules are in play during meets, please let us know if you have any questions.
  • We will provide a small number of food and drink items in our concession area, bring money if you would like to purchase snacks.
  • Bathroom facilities are open during the meet, please be sure to accompany your child to and from the bathroom, coaches will not assist children in the restroom.
What to Expect During the Meet

Arrival and check in
Please be sure to give yourself enough time to get your car parked, gear out and swimmer checked in.  This can be overwhelming to a first time swim parent (I speak from experience!) When you arrive stop at the check in table, they will mark your child present and make sure you have written the swimmers last name and first initial on their upper right shoulder along with their event numbers.  After they are checked in look for the coach warm ups begin at 5:00pm

Warm Ups
This is your child's chance to get out their nervousness! It gets them in the water to loosen up, check their goggles, suits, caps, etc.  Please be sure to have your child to the meet in time to have them participate in warm up activities!

Set up Camp
Please use the area behind the pool (nearest the tennis courts) to set up chairs, tents etc.  The back gate will be open to access the pool deck.  We ask that you do not use the pool deck for camp, we are keeping it open for viewing events and for the volunteer staff.  Please be courteous to the volunteer and coaching staff, they need to be in designated areas to run the meet, we ask that you keep a distance from any equipment or pool edge.  a few feet from any of those areas is appreciated so we can run a safe meet.

Location of important stations
Check in Table- By the front gates
Ready Bench- Under the pavilion near the zero entry pool
Coaches Tables- near the starting blocks along the pool edge
Meet Marshalls- these are volunteers who will be asked to keep certain areas free of traffic, direct traffic and give information.  Understand they are parents, like you who are volunteers.  If they can't get you the information you need right away please be patient.  We are all learning together.

Events
Freestyle, Backstroke, Butterfly, Breaststroke, Relays
Events alternate between male and female events
Each Event is divided into heats with up to 6 swimmer per heat, normally children are grouped in heats by times.
The current event being swam will be on a flip chart next to the announcer, there will also be a flip chart near the ready bench that will display the events that should be in that area.

Ready Bench
In order to get the swimmers into the appropriate lanes, we use a ready bench.  There will be announcements for children to report to the ready bench area about 6 events ahead of when they are to swim.  This allows the volunteers to check the children in and prepare them for their heat.  There will be a flip chars on deck that will show the current event and also one for the ready bench.  Please make yourself familiar with their locations when you check in that morning.  You will be responsible for ensuring your child reports to the ready bench area.

Cheer on Your Swimmer!
Your child has been working hard for this moment! Make sure to get a good viewing spot on deck and when your child exits the pool allow another parent access to see their child.  Children who win their heat will be presented with a heat winner ribbon.  They should walk past the coach after the heat for their feedback as well, this will help them develop from meet to meet!

Being a Good Sport and a Good Neighbor
We encourage good sportsmanship, win or loose everyone has worked hard and should be congratulated! We as parents and swimmers need to demonstrate this on deck.

We ask that you remember to take care of our facilities and leave them as we found them.  Our community has embraced our team and allowed us use of the amenity center for our meets, we ask you remove all trash, please do not move or remove any furniture belonging to the community.  We will be preparing the deck the evening before, we ask you respect the barriers we need to create using the pool furniture.

We are looking forward to our first meet! Thank you all for making this a success! As always if you have any questions email at durbincrossingswimming@gmail.com, visit the website at
